Children and Youth Matter Comox Valley (CYMCV)

CYMCV is a collaborative network of caring community members and service providers dedicated to improving the well-being of children and youth in the Comox Valley. The group works to increase awareness of, and access to, services that support physical, mental, cultural, sexual, and social health. CYMCV believes that all children and youth deserve timely, effective, coordinated, and culturally appropriate supports so they can thrive, stay healthy, and lead fulfilling lives. Their work has been instrumental in identifying local service gaps and advocating for strengthened care for children and youth.

Child Wellness Collaborative

The Child Wellness Collaborative is a Shared Care project that began in April 2025 and will continue until May 2027. Its objective is to improve accessibility and collaborative care for children aged 6 to 12 in the Comox Valley. The project focuses on helping families find the right supports more easily and strengthening the way providers work together so that children receive timely, coordinated and culturally responsive care.

The work is organized into four main pillars:

Primary Care Provider Education

Focuses on offering learning sessions and shared knowledge events that build the confidence and skills of family physicians and nurse practitioners.

Triage Table Development

Brings partners together to design a more coordinated entry point for child and youth services so that referrals are clearer and families can be matched to the right supports.

Centralized Service Directory

Aims to create and maintain a long term platform where families and providers can reliably find up-to-date information about child-serving agencies in our region.

Community of Practice

Creates regular opportunities for providers from different sectors to come together, build relationships, share tools and strengthen trauma-informed and culturally safe approaches.

Guidance

The project is guided by both an Advisory Committee and a Steering Committee. Planning and decision making involve family physicians, nurse practitioners, specialists, Island Health, MCFD, School District 71, Indigenous partners and community organizations that support children and youth. Together, they are shaping a more connected and sustainable model of care for families in the Comox Valley.
